EXCELLENT weapon for the price. Review by Ray

I expected more of a kick from the 10mm. It was pleasant to shoot. The only hiccup I has was feeding the first round with the mag full (8 rounds) After that the pistol ran smoothly. I only shot FMJs so I'll see later how it does with other ammo. (Posted on 9/19/2019)

I have two of them one in 45acp and the other one in 10mm, neither of them like hollow point bullets, but I dont know any semi auto weapon that does, I have put at least if not more than 500 rounds through both of them but with ball ammo and not a miss fire not once, learned my lesson with hollow points . Not bad for the money, but I wouldn't shoot one before a competent gunsmith thoroughly inspects it and test fires it. Review by Evan

This 10mm RIA pistol is a contender for lowest quality 1911 style pistol I’ve ever seen. Upon opening the case for the first time I saw two places on this pistol where the parkerization had minor damage. One was a scratch on the slide that probably happened in transit. The other is a blemish on the frame that looks to be from being placed in a vise during assembly. Below is a list of other issues that I found during my initial inspection, while firing or while inspecting it after firing the first fifty rounds.

1) Burs left from machining inside and out. One bur in the frame was stout enough to keep the sear spring from setting in its retention slot properly. The specification given on Ordnance Department drawings of the M1911 A1 Pistol for edge breaking is “ALL EDGES SHALL BE BROKEN .005” +.010” UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED”. In other words, every edge on and in this pistol should have a .005” to.015” radius or chamfer except for a few particular edges that need to be left sharp and some others that need to have a larger chamfer or radius, all of which are specifically detailed in the drawings. This was not done on most edges inside and on a few edges on the outside of this pistol. Sorry to run on about this, but as a CNC Machine Operator (and trained gunsmith) who primarily makes gun parts for a living, it bothers me quite a lot.

2) The trigger bow was misshapen, would not allow free insertion and free release of the magazine, and had the most take up I have ever seen in a 1911 style pistol.

3) The magazine catch was poorly fitted and interfered with free insertion and free release of the magazine.

4) The rifled bore is parkerized.

5) The hammer had improper radii of the cocking step and half cock notch. If left uncorrected this would have caused the sear to be battered during firing, and would have eventually led to sear failure.

6) The feed ramp had a ridge running up its center and was poorly polished. If that wasn’t bad enough the lower edge of the ramp protruded far enough into the magazine well and was sharp enough to shear a bit of copper and lead off of the meplat as rounds came to the top of the magazine.

7) The detent spot on the slide stop was excessively shallow and slightly mislocated. The slide stop also protruded to far into the magazine well and had a rough surface finish on the faces exposed to the mouth of the magazine, which caused it to occasionally be tripped by a round coming to the top of the magazine, locking the slide to the rear with rounds remaining in the magazine.

8) Sharp edges were hard on brass causing excessive brass debris in the action. Also not good for handloaders that reuse brass, not that they’ll find much of it as far as this thing throws it.

9) Rough machined surface and burs on the extractor made it extremely difficult to remove the extractor.

10) Nearly all components are machined from castings, or are injection molded. Which is to be expected in a sub $1,000 1911 style pistol.

In summary, these pistols are made as cheaply as possible. It seems that they are thrown together as quickly as possible by marginally trained technicians, a brief functions check and test fire are performed and they are boxed and shipped. There is no special attention given to ensure they are reliable, accurate, or even that they are fitted together well enough to deliver the service life that the components might yield if assembled by a reasonably able smith. Some of them shoot decently out of the box, some of them do not. In either case service life longevity may be an issue if you shoot as much as you should in order to develop and maintain your pistol marksmanship skills. To be fair, I have never seen a production run pistol of any brand that couldn’t use a little polishing here or there and if you shoot much they‘ll all need a rework at some point. The real downside to this pistol is that the frame and slide probably aren’t of a quality that they can adjusted for a proper fit if they are sloppy to begin with, or later down the road when the pistol is due for a rebuild.

Have not been able to fire pistol. When I got it home the magazine was stuck and had to pull extra hard to remove. Return to store and has to be sent back.
Appeared to have the wrong magazine.

Great Price! Shoots great, well balanced and comfortable. Sights are less than desirable (all black) hard to get on target and the finish isn't the toughest. Has only 30 rounds through it and the finish is coming off from shells ejecting. Overall I'd buy more. Upgraded the sights already and the thing groups 5 inches from 30 yards. (Posted on 6/28/2019)

I have to admit I was skeptical about all the positive reviews on a 10mm 1911 in the $400 neighborhood, but I had to try it for myself. The gun is tight, and despite the sights, accurate! I had to clean it well, (and even washed the rubber grips with dawn dish soap), due to the amount of oil that saturated the firearm. I experienced no failures in the five magazines I just put through the gun in my backyard (I must get to a better range to further test this gun effectively). I even ran 40 s&w rounds through it as I read other reviewers do, with no problems. The 10mm brass ejected far off into the woods and was unrecoverable, while the 40s simply dropped to my feet. The ONE mag that came with the gun worked fine, although fit unreasonably tight in the mag well. And the finish does show brass tracks from ejection. Overall surprised AND pleased with this new “toy”, maybe if it keeps on preforming well I may use it as a sidearm while hunting. (Posted on 6/26/2019)

Gun fails to feed on every sixth round. Imagine you’re in a firefight , hold on Mr. Badguy, let me rack this slide, it’ll only take me a sec, lol. First thought, maybe the magazine. Contacted RIA. They were ‘SLOW’ to get back to me. When they did they were rude and condescending to me, repeatedly calling me sir over and over in the same paragraph attempting cuteness. I’m not amused. They assured me they’d be sending a new mag. It’s been about a month, no mag sent. I thought a $400 10 mm 1911 was too good to be true. I’m pretty sure I was right. Next time I’ll stick with the big guys, S&W, Ruger, Colt, Sig, Glock etc. (Posted on 2/25/2019)

This one doesnt come with bells and whistles. This is an entry level 1911 that everyone can go out and shoot. 10 mm is extra fire power in the 1911. RIA and others make and sell fancier models, but if you dont want a rail, or adjustable sights, or fancy grips, then this is handgun is for you, if you want to shoot a 1911. (Posted on 10/30/2018)

Very accurate and less recoil than a .40 S&W. I carry it now instead of my Springfield XD40. Only thing I can say about it that is slightly negative is a few times the mag has popped out (became in clicked) on its own but that could be how I’m carrying it. And #2 is that thing shoots the brass when fired! I have only recovered about 20 of 50 cases so good luck with that if you reload. (Posted on 7/13/2018)

I am a 1911 format pistol nut, I have them as small as 22 short and now up to 10mm. I was hesitant to get 10mm due to problems with my hands but to tell the truth I was at the range with a 45acp and this 10mm, one in each hand, and the recoil is basically the same,. (same type and weight ammo) I really enjoyed shooting it. The price and shipping was great. I also got the Baby Rock in .380, it also is awesome RK guns you ROCK....no pun intended (; -). Happy with the way RK handled the order and I although I'm happy with the way the pistol shoots, I wouldn't purchase another one in this model. The weight and balance are good for the money, and the pistol shoots just slightly low at 10 yards but with a slight adjustment in aiming, I was hitting 8" round steel knock down targets consistently. The 2 problems that I have with this pistol are the bull barrel, and the dove tail. The bull barrel has to be taken down with a paperclip stuck in the guide rod, which is a real pain compressing the spring to get the paperclip in. I didn't realize what a problem it would be when field stripping to get the guide rod out. Having to come back to the house and struggle with field stripping the pistol, almost makes it a pistol that won't see the range a lot. The first time out with the pistol, I ran 50, 180 gr Amscor rounds through it, and by the end of the box, the dove tail had dug a hole in the web of my hand between the thumb and index finger. The gun would be so much more comfortable to shoot if it were not for that. I'm hoping that maybe a trip to my local gunsmith can find a solution to it. I also found that the shells being ejected from the chamber, are already scraping the finish off on the top of the slide. I am planning on purchasing another RIA 1911 but it will be an upgraded model. As I said it's a good shooter for the price but with the issues I stated, it's not a pistol that will see a lot of range time unless I can find a solution to both of the problems. Gun shipped in less then a week. Store pick up took 2 hours on a Wednesday. Have it sent to a different FFL dealer. Great gun for the money. Got lucky that it's pretty accurate out of the box. Many are not. Change the sights. Stock sights are very hard to see. Great on line service and store employee was great but needed help. The dept is understaffed. (Posted on 3/24/2018)

This is a great deal on a 10mm. It is a standard GI issue which i like very much. It is well constructed. It is plan but functional. After sooting it i like it very much. The weight of the gun handles the recoil of the caliber very well. If you like the GI 45acp you will love this gun. It's a great value for the money. (Posted on 3/20/2018)

I have done a LOT of research on a 10mm 1911. Sadly, you pay more for bells and whistles and the NAME of the maker of a weapon. Why spend extra for something like those when you have a PREMIUM firearm like this RIA 1911 in the potent 10mm caliber? I have owned 2 Springfield 1911's and have shot several Kimbers. Sure, they are very nice and look slick but I wanted something that was worth the bang of my buck that I could customize how I want. This firearm allows you to trick it out however you want and the bullbarrel (this is a bushingless 1911!!) makes it all the more enjoyable, I have 250 rounds through already and it has yet to hiccup. But I'm still breaking it in. This will my by new carry weapon when I'm on my motorcycle for sure. And the folks at the range like how it pops too. Great price and speed of service from RK! Bought while on sale for 379 what a great deal just can't go wrong. Haven't taken it to the range yet but if its like other Rock Island products it should do great. Will probably buy a 40sw barrel so I can swap back and forth with it and 10mm. (Posted on 2/19/2018)

For the sale price of $379 I can't complain too much. The dove tail grip digs into your hand after shooting X amount of rounds which is a nuisance. Mine shoots about 8" to the left at 10 yards which is aggravating because the rear sight does not like to adjust for windage. If you are used to disassembling a 1911, the guide rod removal is completely different. There is no barrel bushing on this pistol. You have to use a paper clip to remove the guide rod and barrel which makes field stripping impossible unless you carry a paper clip or similar small piece of metal in your pocket. With all that said, I bought this to have a cheap 10 mm to shoot for fun and not to have a carry pistol. For that purpose, it does just fine. (Posted on 2/19/2018)

My 2nd Arnscor - RIA 1911 , great guns ! This 10mm has great power (41Mag. class) with a snappy but mild recoil. My 500 rounds of break in, had 3 FTF only. The only issue was the factory mag and 2 Met Form's & 1 Mec Gar (holds 9 rds.) after market mags the last round hold open only worked about 25% of the time ??? Not a big deal, but not right. Great gun for the price and very accurate to. Get ya one ! (Posted on 9/4/2017)

I bought this because it was the least expensive 10mm I could find. With that in mind I was not expecting it to be that good of a shooter or the fit and finish to be top notch. I received the gun with a lot of thick packing oil on it. After a takedown and good cleaning it was ready to see what it could do. The first 3 shots when all in about 2.5 inches around the bullseye at 20 yards. To say the least I was really impressed. It has a great trigger with a really short reset. I think this guns a keeper. Hope to use it this fall for deer hunting. Would I buy it again? Yes yes yes. (Posted on 7/30/2017)

I have to admit I didnt expext a lot out of this other than to function. Got more than I bargained for.Slide fit is snug and trigger was not as bad as I have seen in past reviews. It is not a Sig but its not 1k either , so this is a great bang for buck firearm to try out your first 1911 or as with myself, put me into the 10mm game for low cost .2 mags would be nice but not a complaint for the money spent. Sights are no frills but thats ok as they get changed to nite sites anyway. (Posted on 7/29/2017)

I absolutely love this pistol, I have 2 RIA 1911's the Quality is outstanding as is the workmanship. I am able to put upgrades as you would with any 1911 pistol. This is my first 10mm pistol and I bought it for $369.00 with $9.99 S&H. I have found that my new RIA 10mm has taken over as my favorite of all my pistols. If you get a chance please you owe it to yourself to add this pistol to your collection. (Posted on 7/29/2017)

I never shot a 10mm before. But the price was right, at $380. Thought I would give it a try. I have other RIA 1911's in .45 acp, also great guns. The 10mm GI model works great, no problems. Did not see much difference in 10 mm, compared to .45 acp. as far as being able to handle the recoil. Over all a really good gun.

Got mine for $379 and waited 2 weeks. Well worth the wait! I have 2 other 10 mm and this one shoots as good if not better with my reloads. First 3 shots at 10 meters were X's. Put 150 rounds thru it with the only issue being slide not going to full battery. Will shoot cleaner ammo after a good cleaning and run 150 more. So far love the gun! (Posted on 7/28/2017)

This is a great gun for an unbelievable price. It shoots great with a very comfortable recoil. The only other 10mm pistols I have seen are hundreds of dollars more. Bought this for $449.00 less 12% discount, a great deal. Had it shipped to my local RK store and filled out the paperwork there for free. Out of the box it had just one problem, the slide release was so stiff even a big guy like me had trouble with both thumbs releasing it, my wife found it impossible no matter what she did. A little Dremel work and it slipped easier, but other than being a little stiff like any new 1911 frame it was great. Shoots as well as my Colts did out of the box, for a whole lot less money. Handles 10mm and .40 cal (I know, but as long as you clean it out after firing the .40 it feeds and shoots perfect for a whole lot less money) just fine, Would recommend it to anyone looking for a 10mm anywhere. I wanted a 10 mm for quite a while. When I found one at this price from Rock Island Armory I had to have it. Fit and finish were great. I took it to the range the next day and was not disappointed. Accuracy was excellent. I did have a couple failure to feeds during the first 200 rounds but a 500 round break in period is recommended by R.I.A. so I am sure it will be fine. This gun is a keeper !
