I have one major problem with this firearm and that is pulling back the slide. Mine is very difficult for me to pull back resulting in my hand always getting in the way and getting pinched. I am not a weak woman it’s just a very strong spring.
On the plus side, it is the perfect size for anyone who wants to carry in their pocket or purse. The trigger action is a little reluctant but not hard to pull. It’s a nice little gun for anyone looking for something small to carry. I will be trading it for a 380 Shield - EZ which is larger but easier for me to use. (Posted on 9/15/2018)

The size of the gun is what sold me, I have been trying to talk my wife into carrying more often but have not been able to find a gun that was small and comfortable, but the little bodyguard fit that description. my wife loves the gun and feels more comfortable with it than others she has tried to carry, and the small carry case that came with it was a bonus. It is right on the target at 7 and 10 yards for me. The laser was exact as it came at 25 feet without adjustment. It is light weight and makes for a great pocket gun. I will probably buy another one for my wife. Her 38 wheel gun is very heavy in her purse. (Posted on 2/17/2018)

I dont understand why some people buy a gun then complain about every little detail. I love this gun and I even like the trigger. Its very easy to conceal. Im 6'4 255 so I can barely get my middle and ring finers on the grip but thats ok because this isnt suppose to be a full size gun. Its small and meant to be used to back somebody up off of you. It shoots well, groups are decent, excellent s&w quality. Love the gun and its earned a place in my carry rotation. My local RK was very easy to work with as always. (Posted on 1/14/2018)

I purchased the .380 Bodyguard from RK Elyria. I certainly compliment the associates. As always, they were very helpful and patient. Candidly, I should have taken their advice and procured a bigger pistol. This little weapon is well made (after all, it IS a Smith & Wesson) and it goes 'bang' when you pull the trigger. The real problems are 1) If you've got anything approaching average sized hands, your pinky is in space, and 2) it hurts your hands when you fire. And I mean it really hurts. But that stated, if you're looking for a little EDC this will do the trick. And, as far as I can tell, it's dependable (like your mom, it appears to eat anything). Before you buy this maybe consider a M&P 9 Shield, or, if you're not on S&W's sack, maybe even a Kahr Arms CM 9. Anyway, thanks again the RK Elyria, OH for great service! (Posted on 12/12/2017)
Decent carry - long hard trigger pull Review by DeeDub

I've had the gun for about a year now. Initially had issues with it frequently failing to stay open on last round and had to send back to S&W. Upon return, I had it fail to stay open 2x the next 100 rounds. It has been good since then except one time when a friend who is a gun newbie may have limp-wristed it. The trigger is indeed long and hard so I don't carry with safety on. The hard trigger break tended to cause me to pull low so it takes some getting used to to gain any accuracy. The rack is fairly stiff, too, even after 700+ rounds, so my wife doesn't like it for that reason.

I carry back pocket in an Uncle George holster that I modified to hold the second mag.

I really do like the laser and use it mainly for practice panic draw to confirm how close I am to targeting without using the sites. I have poor close vision and especially in a dark situation would never be able to use sites so am developing my muscle memory, which is getting surprisingly accurate.

For the money, it's a nice little gun, but if I had it to do over, for my wife's sake, I would spend the extra couple hundred for the little Sig. (Posted on 12/6/2017)

The reviews on the long trigger pull are correct, but it's an easy fix with a drop in trigger kit. Have a gunsmith install one for you. I've had mine for five years, with no problems and I'm very happy with it. (Posted on 10/1/2017)

Outstanding pocket pistol Review by WeekendWarrior76

I've owned my bodyguard now for two years, and absolutely love it. Excellent size for concealment and carry. The size alone makes it versatile for different ways you could carry it, weather in your vehicle, in a bag, or on your person. Right off the bat, you'll need to align the laser which is easily done with the included hex key. There's two small adjustment screws, takes you about five minutes if you take your time and do it correctly. Batteries only now needed replaced so I'd estimate you'll get roughly two years on the two batteries for the sight before replacing.

Shoots a nice group at 10 yards, obviously with lots of practice. I see that some folks say the trigger pull is long, but I don't honestly notice it. It's crisp and easy to pull as you exhale. Good shooting mechanics take precedent over blaming a trigger on your inability to hit the broadside of a barn. Most of your pocket pistols aren't exactly "fun guns" at the range, but I think the bodyguard is pretty forgiving, and I've owned two other .380's prior to this one. I believe that a typical .380 is ideal for those "up close and personal" self defense moments we all hope never happen. This isn't a 20 yard gun, most pocket pistols aren't, but at 5-10 yards, with some good solid practice, this one is a gem. The laser is easy to activate and becomes second nature after getting the hang of it at the range.

I've fed several kinds of ammo through mine and it's fed nicely through it all. I don't personally like the silver stuff and prefer a brass round. Zero problems with any of it. The sight picture is good, much better than a Taurus LCP .380, but with a properly sighted laser, you probably will find yourself using the actual sights very little. Magazines are plentiful and it breaks down for cleaning very easily. Lots of holster options (I carry mine IWB) are available which is a nice touch. Between the two, I think for the money, the included laser sight makes this a great EDC pistol and the price is quite reasonable for what you get right out of the box. Mine included a soft sided heavy duty zipper bag which looks like a daily planner that you'd carry around the office with you. I'd buy another one of these without giving it a second thought. Just might be the best .380 I've owned, and I trust it. (Posted on 7/21/2017)

Pros: The bodyguard is a solid gun and easy to conceal. The laser is high quality and bright. Lightweight. Looks nice. Would be a good backup for a more accurate edc firearm.
Cons: The trigger pull is too long for such a small gun which reduces accuracy when firing. Uncomfortable to shoot. Laser would be useless in most self defense situations unless you practice with it a lot so you aren't wasting that extra second to hit the button while your attacker is pulling the trigger. The resale value is minimal because these are everywhere. If you trade it in you might get $200 value for it if they will even buy it.
Conclusion: mediocre gun with poor value and poor accuracy. Make sure it is the gun you want before you buy because you will take a significant loss on trade in or resale if you don't like it. (Posted on 10/24/2016)

I had been waiting for a deal like this as this gun is what I have been looking for. The gun went on sale while I was on vacation and when I got home I called my local RK and was put on a waiting list #4 in line. Called RK stores in two surrounding states the same thing out of stock and would put me on a waiting list. My wife said to call the corporate RK office so I did and spoke with Greg in firearms and not only did he have one in stock but honored the special price with the special rebate offer. I received a tracking number to track the delivery of my gun and received a call from my local RK within 7 days to pick up my gun. Paper work took about 30 minutes as they were busy and had only one person working the firearms counter. I will continue to buy from my RK friends both local and corporate. (Posted on 9/14/2016)

Great gun and great value. I just got it and haven't made it to the range yet, but plan to real soon. This was a great buy on a great piece, I've been watching for it for several months. They were busy, and only had only one person staffing the counter. (Posted on 8/22/2016)

Had this for about 2 years great for jacket pocket or Bach pocket of blue jeans or cargo pocket.. Laser is fun and might be good for intimidating a bad guy ,,, but bought it for concealment not for advertising where in a or who has a weapon and where they might be!. Does have a safety which is becoming a thing of the past in defensive handguns...if you can't keep your finger off the trigger when you draw you might want to carry with safety on...easy to break down and clean.. carry a lot in a bulldog holster that looks like a cell phone case.. A little advice if you carry in a bull dog ,,,, carry with the butt. Of the weapon at the front with the magazine at top front as you draw put your finger on he mag and pull back the pistol will fill your hand as you pull back and you'll be in shooting position asap!

I've had this gun for 3 months now. I have yet to have anything bad to say about the gun. It is compact and I can carry it in my jeans watch pocket with only the handle showing. For me, it is a convenient easy access self defense gun. While it does have a long trigger pull, there is a conversion kit on the market to resolve this issue. That would be my ONLY complaint about the gun, but I bought it for self defense, not to target shoot. (Posted on 5/24/2016)

I bought this pistol for concealed carry and am very happy with it so far. It is very well made and very confrontable to shoot. I have not had any failures of any kind. The trigger does have a long travel and you can see it thru the slide, but for concealed carry thats fine with me. I wouldn't use it for a target gun because of the trigger but was not designed or intended for that. I carry this pistol and highly recommend it. (Posted on 5/3/2016)
