I have owned and carried my Body Guard for many months. It is the best .380 on the market, for size, feel and ease of carry. I have owned several of the most popular .380's and the Body Guard is the very best for me. If you have a friend or family member who owns the pistol you are interested in buying. Ask to shoot theirs first. Don't spend your money, and complain! Shoot the pistol first, and then make your decision. I think you will like the Body Guard, if you have shot any of the others. This is my second M&P Bodyguard 380. I am very satisfied with the quality and cost. The trigger is not an issue. A little practice at the range and most people I have spoken with agree you can become proficient. It is a get off me pistol and not a target pistol. It works perfectly for me when used for it's purpose. (Posted on 5/20/2017)

I've seen a lot of negative comments about the trigger on this handgun. It does in fact have a long pull, but this isn't a target or range gun, it is a close range personal protection weapon, & in practiced hands it's an absolute gem! I spent a lot of time dry firing this weapon, & it does take a bit of getting used to. However, once one puts the time in, the long trigger pull is a non issue. It is easy to control, & surprisingly accurate. You know it's dependable because it's a S & W. I like mine so well that I'm thinking about purchasing a second. (Posted on 4/19/2017)

Love this CC firearm. Solid well machined. Haven't fired it yet cycled 50 rounds manually no jams no misfeeds. It is what I expect from SW. Store personnel were great. My only gripe is the "RK rebate" is not a rebate rather a credit against future purchases. Call it what it is. (Posted on 4/18/2017)

I got this from Peru Illionis Rule King. I was walking around the store when I seen this little gem. So I stopped looked at it and went on my way. After thinking about it for 20 minutes I went back and purchase it. I've only shot maybe 20 rounds threw it. Feels nice in my big hands. Didn't kick or slide around like other 380's do. I'm glad I purchased this gun. Happy shooting everyone.. (Posted on 3/16/2017)

Racking & trigger pull about what I expected, but little wife can't rack or get full trigger pull. If you have older, smaller hands with a touch of arthritis this gun will not be usable. Other than that, fine little weapon for the price. At least if the wife decides to take a shot at me I can be down the street before she can pull the trigger! (Posted on 2/25/2017)

My 4th S&W. OK with the trigger as I was used to M&P first gen triggers. Gun is accurate and easily concealable. You may double your pleasure shooting this if you upgrade the sights. Been carrying it in my front pocket in a Desantis pocket holster. Don't even notice it's there. Fits my large hands ok. Long trigger pull is designed for safety. It could mess up your day to have a gun with a light, short trigger pull to discharge in your pocket. Very well made little handgun. RK turn around time could be a little better, but I'm not complaining. (Posted on 1/8/2017)

Such a long trigger pull. The amount of force required to pull the trigger is way excessive. Causes you to go off target. Bough for my wife for conceal and carry purposes. Myself and my friend could not group any shots with it. The amount of effort required to pull the trigger causes to much wrist action and missed target. (Posted on 11/6/2016)

A very decent handgun regardless of negative reviews Review by The Salty Dog

I am not associated with S&W. I left a review of this weapon several months ago touring what a good and dependable gin it is. It's so good, I recently bought my 3rd S&W .380 Bodyguard, M&P, for several reasons.

First, I was surprised at some of the comments regarding the trigger. I have fired this handgun with several hundred rounds of various ammunition and the trigger has not posed any problems for me. In fact, my shot groups are really tight. A caveat should be added here, though, and that is I am not an average shooter. I am retired law enforcement and have been carrying various S&W handguns for the past 40 years. In retirement, I still have to qualify yearly, and practice quarterly. I'm very satisfied with the trigger pull and design.

Another issue came up on a review about having to use the magazine release button to load a magazine. The first S&W .380 I bought was reliable on the fact that loading a magazine was easy.

Not so on my second one. After picking it up at a FFL I discovered it was very, very hard to load a magazine without pressing the button. I took the weapon to a gunsmith. He told me how to remove the magazine button assembly and to file an extremely small bit of the plastic interior button. He cautioned me not to file too much or the magazine would fall out. Following his advice and being very conservative, I filed a minuscule amount, and the magazine loads appropriately and snug.

On my recent Rural King S&W .380 putchase, the button was the first thing I examined. At first it was stiff like my last one, but didn't have to file. Simply getting accustomed to the right amount of pressure to slap the magazine in works great for me.

Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this weapon. I have four guns, but prefer owning the three same weapons strictly for the familiarity in case of an emergent situation.

Buying through RKGuns and even Rural King store is a satisfying experience. (Posted on 5/19/2016)

Excellent Pocket Pistol Review by SchwansManDan

I rented the lkaser equipped version at the local range a few months ago & thought it was "just okay". If anything, I thought the laser was a distraction and I focused on using just the sights.

When the BG380 went on sale at my local RK, I couldn't pass up the deal. It has much better sights than the other pocket .380s that I checked out, and it eats every type of ammo I have fed it so far (Geco FMJ, Remington FMJ, Winchester White Box, and Hornady FTX Critical Defense).

I did paint the front & rear sights white to make it easier for my old eyes to pick them up. Last weekend's trip to the range resulted in a 1.5-inch group of five shots. I have no doubts about tucking this gun into a pocket holster for self defense. (Posted on 3/4/2016)

I've shot 4 different S&W M&P's and was decently satisfied withh all of them with the exception of this one. HORRIBLE TRIGGER on this firearm. If S&W could change the trigger style to a 1911 slide or skeletal it would cure all the problems I see with this otherwise functional firearm. The problem remains...bad trigger, bad firearm. I can't believe more people haven't mentioned the horrible trigger on this handgun. Unfortunately when some gun owners pay less for a gun they're more apt to accept shortcomings with their firearms. This is a good pocket carry pistol. I paid $300 and good gun for the value. This is probably the best CCDW on the market. The only thing negative I can mention is the front sight is all black and hard to see. If I keep the gun, I will be painting the front sight a white or orange. The other thing is the long trigger pull and this results in off target shots at times. They are still in the strike zone but grouping is not as tight as other pistols I have. (Posted on 1/2/2016)

The gun is solid, my issue is that the triggger pul is so long that by the time it goes BANG, I'm off target by two feet. I just sold it and bought a S&W shield. Very good gun for the sale price of $270. I love the quality of Smith & Wesson firearms. If you register this gun on time it has a lifetime warranty. This gun is accurate for a sub compact. Very close in size to the Ruger LCP380. I carry this in a wallet holster and there is no way to tell I have a gun, it just looks like a wallet in my pocket. I carry a XDS 45 most of the time but when I need to be sure about concealment I carry my Bodyguard. This is double action so it has a long trigger pull and you can buy a trigger kit which will shorten the length a little bit. Match this to Hornady flex tips and it is a very capable weapon. Cons: It is hard to pick the front sight up. Too much black on black in such a short distance. I painted my front sight fluorescent red and it made a big difference. (Posted on 12/8/2015)

Great for the pocket Review by The Salty Dog

As retired law enforcement, I've carried many weapons. In retirement, I wanted something that wouldn't indicate I was carrying. Small revolvers in an ankle holster just didn't work. I finally found the S&W .380 M&P Bodyguard, combined with an Uncle Mike's #3 Pocket Holster, to be the best combination. The .380 is easy to draw from the holster that stays inside the pocket. No one can really tell I'm CCW.

The one I got from RK Guns was a great price. They usually run around $390 +/- at sporting goods stores, and at $290, this was an outstanding deal. Sadly, about 10 days later, RK had a 1-Day sale at $269.99! Regardless, still a great deal. Shipping to local FFL was very quick. I only had to pay $20 for the transfer. FFL transfer fees vary.

Overall, I like this S&W model. It's great for CCW, and very easy to qualify at the range. The magazine holds 6 cartridges, but putting one in the chamber and adding the 7th back in to the magazine, one carries 7 loads.

If this comes back up at the $269.99 price again, I'll jump on it. Since 1975, I've carried various S&Ws, both pistols and wheel guns. I've tried other handguns, but S&W's quality and workmanship are the best. (Posted on 11/30/2015)

wanted a 9mm but could not find one that was comfortable to carry anytime anywhere, hesitated getting a 380 but settled for the Bodyguard, if I carry a 9mm, it will just be a holstered full size. I had several S&W items and like them all. I catty this thing in my front pocket everywhere, the bulge is no more than cell phone, I am so used to it that I never notice it and no one else does unless you tell them. and its right there if needed. I tried ankle and back holsters.... just didn't work for me. if you want a Great Pocket gun that's pretty accurate out to 30' or so and very accurate close in. I recommend the bodyguard. ps. don't waste your money on the laser, in a true defense incident I do not think it would be used. (Posted on 11/10/2015)
