Don’t shoot steel case ammo Review by Buckeye Bob

I made the mistake of buying some steel case ammo and broke the ejector on the first round. I thought it was a fluke and broke the replacement ejector on the first round.. Slow learner! It works fine with brass case ammo.

I rarely carry anything else-this one goes everywhere Review by Jim

Sub-compact guns are not new. Lot's of makers have tried, but few are what I would even call good. This little gem is excellent. Slip it in a pocket holster, and you barely know it is there. Better yet, it is very difficult for anyone else to know it is there. The gun has been thinned down and shaped to what I believe is the absolute minimum for a .380. I own seven different .380 pistols. This is the only one I carry. I keep a 10 round magazine in my car console just in case, too. I even bought a second to have on hand if I need it.

Better yet, it shoots. It does the job it is supposed to do. I only have about 500 rounds through it so far, but it has been 100% reliable. Ruger is known for being reliable and they didn't let us down here. It isn't fair to compare shooting this with a full frame gun. Yes, it is slightly uncomfortable to shoot-only because it is a sub compact. It is easier and more comfortable to shoot than any of my other similarly sized guns. I've shot it side by side with several other similar pistols. I found this one easiest to shoot and keep on target shot after shot. It is still easier than my .32 Derringer, and the .380 has a lot more power.

I am far more concerned with it working when I need it than being an everyday range gun. I practice with a 4 inch steel plate swinger at 10 yards. It bangs away just fine. If I ever do need it, I trust that I wouldn't even notice the recoil in a high stress, adrenaline fueled situation. Regular practice is the only way to know that the gun and I will both do what we need to do in a confrontation. (Posted on 10/24/2018)

I bought two of these from my local Rural King. They have failure to ejects and reload two to three times per six round magazine with different types of ammo. Their unsafe and complete garbage. Stay far away from these. They might look nice in a drawer. paper weight, or in a pocket but I definitely would not trust my life with these for sure !!!!! (Posted on 7/28/2018)
The only .380 to buy Review by lateralus
Quality

If you are going to buy one .380, make it this one. Ruger is quality and you can't go wrong at this price point. Despite its small size it feels good in the hand. The benefit of this gun is that it is extremely concealable and lightweight. You can front or rear pocket carry it, put it in your jacket, purse (BTW this gun is a great option for women), or even in a boot. The downsides are that it is snappy (as most .380s are) and not accurate unless your target is less than 10 feet away. But this gun is not for target practice. It serves one purpose and that is to end a close proximity threat. (Posted on 3/18/2018)

Have had for nearly two years after purchasing at the Van Wert, Ohio RK store. After several hundred rounds of FMJ and HP, I've had no reliability issues. It has eaten everything I've fed it. It's as accurate as the shooter, certainly out to fifteen yards. The Ruger LCP is my summertime EDC pistol. If you're in the market for a small, reliable .380, this pistol is it. I highly recommend it. (Posted on 12/30/2017)
Decent Compact Semi Automatic Review by drtank
Quality

Value
The Ruger LCP (version 2 of the original LCP) is a very concealable personal security firearm. It performs as you would expect, with short-range accuracy that is surprisingly good. It does have a vigorous "kick" because of its light weight but is manageable under conditions of rapid repeat firing. The slide is very stiff and, thus, requires considerable strength and force to load the first round or unload a chambered round. However, it does not take long to adapt one's technique to the resistance, which diminishes slightly after many slide pulls. It is challenging to lock the slide back using the small tab. However, securing the slide with the tab becomes more manageable with practice. Overall, this compact semi-automatic is a very good product. I would buy it again. (Posted on 12/15/2017)

I love this little guy. Perfect for concealed carry. Not a lot of fun to shoot at the range, unless you like the pain caused by serious recoil kick (this is a quality gun but there's nothing to it, so recoil). Anyway, take care of this little guy, practice once or twice a year and then leave it in the holster when you carry and you won't be left hanging in the event you get into a SD/SDO situation (God forbid). Would like to thank the RK store in Leesburg for the help received with my new Ruger LCP 380, and although have not been to a range as of yet to shoot the new pistol, it is what I have wanted for some time, and already love it! For a self defense firearm and concealed weapon it is hard to beat for size, weight and power, reliable and accurate. Its a Ruger, so its what you would expect, and I am not disappointed!!! Very accurate and not much muzzle flip. Kicks more than you would think though. After 20 shots or so, your hand is buzzing. Not made for target shooting though, made for shooting bad guys which it does well. All 7 shots in center mass at 5 yards and is comfortable to carry in my nylon inside waist Uncle Mikes holster. Barely noticeable wearing just a T-shirt. (Posted on 4/29/2016)

I purchased my LCP a couple of months ago. I took it to the range along with my 9mm Witness. I was expecting it to have some muzzle flip since it is so small but I was more than pleasantly surprised at how nice it was to shoot. I was able to put 16 of the first 18 in the ten ring at seven yards. The other two just outside the ten. I had no issues getting used to the DAO trigger. The single stack magazine was easy to load which is a plus for me. I hate struggling to push rounds into a magazine. I am over 55 and have the usual vision challenges associated with my age. Even though the sights are not very big, I had no problems acquiring a sight picture. I fired Remington FMJ's and JHP's with no failure to feed or eject issues. I love my Witness 9mm but this gun has made me a Ruger fan. The gun is easy to take down and clean but putting the retention pin back in is a little bit of a challenge. It takes some getting used to, but not a deal breaker. I really love the gun and am now considering picking up a Ruger LC9s. If you are looking for a small CCW this is it. (Posted on 4/16/2016)

Cant say enough good things about the size, accuracy and dependability of this gun..Great carry gun. Once a person gets accustomed to the trigger pull the accuracy is really good, out to 30-35 yards for me, and I don't consider myself a great shooter. Only drawback is expense of .380 ammo.. I order this pistol and had it sent to my nearest rk store, thinking that it would be an efficient way to do business......Illinois has a 72 hr waiting period to buy, I get it, no big deal......wouldn't you think that when I order from rk online that they would start the paperwork, get my information, and get things done so that when it arrives at the store I can pick it up? Nope, I have to go 30 miles to the store, fill out the paperwork, and THEN wait 72 MORE hours.....even though my purchase order is time stamped as to when I ordered the gun online 4 days earlier......I have bought online from other retailers and the ffl gets the book work and approvals done while the gun is in transit......don't know why rk couldn't do the same thing...
But I think the pistol is great! (Posted on 2/14/2016)
