I Love this gun...Is it a bit ugly? I don't know. Everything online tells me it is, and after hearing it so much, I guess I sort of believe it. But, I do remember the very first time I saw it, I thought it looked kind of cool. Now..it IS HEAVY. Now too heavy, but heavier than most carbines. But, this gun right out of the box shoots great. One guy said that it isn't good for self defense..HUH???? Pull. the trigger and it goes bang? How is that not good for self defense? Its accurate. It is durable. It is inexpensive to purchase and depending on caliber, cheap to shoot. There are a ton of aftermarket accessories too. This is a great gun! . (Posted on 10/31/2018)

I was looking for a new rifle that wasn't going to drain my wallet. I've always heard negative things about hi-point pistols, but I haven't heard anything about their rifles. But, while visiting our local Rural King I seen the Hi-Pont 995 rifle. They also had one in 45 cal. After handling the display model I purchased the 995. It is a little on the heavy side for its size. Then I added a few accessories after I got it home. I have to say I was really impressed with the performance of this rifle. I was shooting at targets at 50 feet. I was surprised at how accurate this rifle was right out of the box. And with the spring loaded butt plate, it has almost no recoil at all. I have a .22 rifle that has more recoil then the 995. I absolutely love this rifle. I wish I could attach a pic of my target with the first rounds fired from the 995. (Posted on 10/23/2018)

Hi Point gets a bad rap as gun-snobs of the world wouldn't be caught with one, right? Then why is it, if you go to most websites that sell it, youtube video's that review it, or to people at the range that actually shoot it. You find that more than 95% of the folks really like the Hi Point Carbine? To me it's a great carbine for the price, and daggonnit! its fun to shoot! So put that in your pipes and smoke it gun-snobs of the world. I like my Hi Point a lot, and so do my friends that I let shoot it. Nuff said! (Posted on 9/30/2018)

dont listen to the gun snobs who regularly troll to upset those of us who actually have a realistic perception of what this actually is. Hi Point is not Sig, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, and people who buy them are smart enough to know the difference. If I want to pay 250 or 300 dollars for a gun that yeah isn't pretty and materials may not be the best who are you to tell me otherwise. Does it shoot?-yup, is it reliable?-yup, is it good for home defense-hell yeah. If you don't believe me come to my house around midnight and enter unannounced. You'll find out how good it is real quick. (Posted on 8/8/2018)

The truth of this carbine Review by Mike

It’s bottom quality and ugly to look at and weary at first to shoot. It’s heavier than anything close to a carbine. The metal used is so bad you can the smelting grain in it. The cheap plastic used reminded me of old He-Man dolls.
It’s ugly as they get. Huge fore sight actually keeps a bead on target. The high rise scope mount is necessary to pair with it.
Shoots ok with some hang ups and failures. You can run over this gun, shoot it, drown it and poor gravel into it and yes, with some forced coercion it can fire. Just a slow charging afterwards. Gritty but works.
Check the pros on accuracy because at 50 yards it’s a bit sketchy with manhole cover size grouping from multiple skilled shooters is is what it is.
Self defense ? No
Car gun ? No
Fun at the range? YES
ITS FUN to plink with.
Quality is garbage. All hi points are. It’s the Ford of guns.
Beginners or amateurs that have never shot anything will like this. (Posted on 7/4/2018)

Shoots great, fun gun. I have many guns of different calibers, this one is my favorite plinker.. 9mm is cheap to just play with.. the only thing I would like, is a stock that allows higher capacity magazines, I got the 20rd red ball magazines but they stick out far from the bottom.. a drum or double stack would be nice.. either way... still a great gun! An underrated gem Review by Gulfgecko

I picked up this little gem on a Black Friday deal at Rural King, and I have to say I'm very happy. There are a lot of people saying this is ugly, but everyone I know and even strangers at the range think it looks pretty cool. Besides, if you are looking at a gun and seeing pretty, you need to find a girlfriend!
Right out of the box it was dead on, with every round going exactly where I placed it. With over 100 rounds through it, there was not one single failure to feed or to fire. A guy in the next shooting stall at the range asked if he could shoot it lol.
Don't let these people who trash Hi-Point for their opinion of this gun's appearance, sway you from making your own decision. It's got solid construction, great accuracy, and best of all it's affordable!

Pot metal and cheap plastic goes bang Review by Diab

It’s hilarious reading reviews about this thing. This carbine is a big , heavy , ugly , hunk of pot metal and cheap plastic. Upon first handling this thing I thought it was a joke with it’s odd design and humped receiver and of course the gigantic M-4 style front sight makes this thing scary to even want to shoot.
Hi points are the absolute bottom of the barrel firearm.
With that said, I had no trouble hitting steel at 40 then 50 yards. (True yards). One FTF and one FTE on 100 first rounds out of the box. Old Wolf and CCI steel/ Alum ammo. The thing broke in ok but the charging handle fell off in the brush. Found it but what a pain.
It’s heavy to lug with other items in the field and practicality is out the window. This is a beginner carbine for plinking with. Maybe a back up to a backup to a truck gun?
It is fun to shoot in a mad max sort of way but I wouldn’t use it for defense or offense purposes.
It’s design and function is ancient with cheap materials and for budget minded people looking for fun at the range for a little while.
I’ll say this, the 995 carbine is the best Hipoint has to offer including the .40/.45 versions I’m assuming but that’s not saying much.
995 eats up ammo and is surprisingly fun to shoot. In Bullpup form it looks so much better but to do that you’ll pay more for conversion kit then the guns actually worth.
For the money as is, anything that throws bullets down range is worth it I guess. $229. That is (Posted on 12/3/2017)

I first purchased the 9mm and had a great time shooting it. Then, I purchased the 45acp version. These are accepted in my local indoor range. I usually take a friend and give him his choice, and I fire the other. It doesn't make a difference, because they shoot very similar.
They only reason I prefer the 9mm,is the price of the ammo. They are so much fun to shoot, I usually lose track of time, and for that space in time, the pure enjoyment, puts all stresses aside.Lifetime guarantee cannot be beaten. The price - a plinkers dream. The feeling I get - (PRICELESS). (Posted on 11/6/2017)

I have had my 995TS for about a year now. I bought it and an AR15 from Rural King at the same time. I can honestly say that I have more fun with this 9mm carbine than the AR. My girlfriend likes it well enough to get one for herself too. I added a red dot that coexists with the iron sights and is accurate with either. This gun has never had an issue loading, firing or ejecting. With Hi-Points warranty you can not go wrong with this gun. I recently picked up a Red Ball 20 round magazine for it and it too has worked flawlessly. I am considering a .40 cal or .45 version in my near future. (Posted on 7/8/2017)

I picked up this Hi Point 9mm carbine a couple weeks ago, and I finally got the chance to shoot it. It's a ton of fun to shoot, and fairly accurate straight out of the box. It shot about an inch low and an inch to the right at 50 yards, and that was easy to fix. Yes, it's an ugly gun, but for the price, the way it works, and how it can be easily modified makes it worth it. (Posted on 3/1/2017)

Great buy for the price. Fun to modify too! I added a scope, tactical light/laser, side rails, folding forward grip, bipod, two magazines that mount on the stock. I also got a sweet barrel shroud that is made of aircraft aluminum. My rifle looks incredible. I have it sighted in at 100 yards. Shoots great with no jamb ups. I would recommend this to anyone. Great for home defense and just to go out target shooting. Everyone asks me what kind of rifle is it!! It's fun to modify! (Posted on 12/31/2016)

We saw the 40 in the store, my hubby wanted one in the worse way, but kept hesitating on spending the money on another gun. And his handgun is a 45 so he wanted something with the same ammo. RK just cannot keep these beauties in stock. Months later was on the RK Guns website and it was meant to be! Ordered his gun after calling the 5 Rural King stores within a 50 mile radius to see if they had one in stock. No luck. Within a week of ordering online the 995TS 9mm was ready for us to pick up. (my Sig is a 9mm so we are buying that size ammo anyway.) This gun was so fun to shoot, no real kickback like I was afraid there would be. I bought a pink and purple 380ACP Carbine a week later when a local shop had one in stock. Love these guns for the price and reliability. (Posted on 7/17/2016)

Two and a half years ago at my concealed carry class, after class, my instructor introduced me to this carbine. I was impressed when I fired it with the accuracy and general operation. I decided at that time that soon as I found one for sale, I would buy it. I found one at a gun store a couple of months later. It came with three magazines. It is an excellent rifle, no problems, and everyone who fires it wants one. Nothing bad to say about the weapon. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a 9 mm semi auto carbine.......It is however, UGLY.......but I can live with that. (Posted on 12/7/2015)
