Pull the trigger; gun goes bang. Rock solid revolver, no hammer spur to snag on clothes, S&W reliability. Great backup or primary carry gun. Only 5 shots but a gun you have no reason not to carry every day - light weight. (Posted on 7/16/2018)

Bought this on sale and fell in love with it after the first 5 rounds. Shot 40 rounds and would have shot more but wanted to save 10 for my wife to try it, only bought one box of ammo. Wife thought it kicked pretty good but for me, after shooting the Judge, doesn't bother me at all. Shells eject nice and appearance is great. This will be my carry gun. (Posted on 7/14/2018)

This is a wonderful gun you just have to practice- practice with it and get to know how to shoot it. Try different ammo and see what works best for you. A very good gun for Conceal carry at 5 to 15 feet. You might want to try different grips if your hands are big and and could help out on the recoil.. Good luck Have fun shooting and stay safe. The small revolver is very good quality. The trigger has a great stack to it. You can very easily shoot it single action even though the trigger is enclosed.
I took 1 star off for the blotchy finnish on the trigger. I had to polish it up. The resy of the gun A+.
Also the Rural King in Collinsville IL Worst gun department ever. RK guns online A+ service. (Posted on 12/6/2017)

It’s a revolver, so nothing to think about when you need it in an emergency. Very light, easy to carry in pocket, shoulder holster. +P ammo makes it similar to .357. I carry one everyday. (Posted on 12/3/2017)

Perfect for a close encounter ! Smith J frame revolvers are great. I bought my first one over forty years ago buy this is my favorite. With a bit of practice this has become my EDC. It is. Simple, reliable, and accurate within reason. I've put several hundred rounds through it without a single stove pipe, LOL. Glad I bought this gun from RK. (Posted on 4/29/2017)

Shoots extremely well. Fit & finish is excellent. I purchased larger Hogue (3 finger) grips...all the difference in the world...comfortable with increased accuracy but a little less concealability. (Posted on 2/3/2017)

The 642 airweight is my first light gun and it pushes back on my hand and wrist more than I expected. Trigger pull is great, both break point and reset. Sights are a little hard for me to see but I am older and have some cataracts. Grips feel good . (Posted on 11/10/2016)

I love revolvers and have standardized on the Smith and Wesson 642 J frame .38 special and + P. Small enough to conceal and easy enough to shoot for the whole family to protect themselves with. All my girls have the Lady Smith model. Cheap enough to put one in every room of the house. Only 5 shots but I do purchase 2 speed loaders and a pouch with each firearm in case more shot are required. (Posted on 10/31/2016)

I haven't fired my S&W 642 yet, but am familiar with the brand and the type. Several years ago, I had a similar firearm (a Model 36), and it was a great little pistol. The 642, rated for +P ammo is a bargain at the price that I obtained it for, and will take its place as my "bedside companion", replacing a lesser-brand revolver. I also own several other pistols, include 2 other Smith & Wessons, in various calibers. (Posted on 10/29/2016)

My dad originally bought this gun, one day we took it to the range, it wouldn't fire because of burr on the trigger, the cylinder keep missing shots, and we ended sending it back to the factory for some repairs. We haven't shot it since after some repair work was done. (Posted on 10/23/2016)

The air weight handles and shoots very well. I agree, the factory grips are not the greatest and I look to change those ASAP. The rounds I shot were very comfortable as far as recoil. Surprised me. Come right back on target every time. Good grouping at 7 yards for the first time shooting. I have a Ruger LCRX in 38. I rate the air weight slightly above the Ruger for concealed carry. First time I took it to the range it wasn't fun to shoot. Just standard target loads not +P. Swapped out the grip with larger rubber one and now it's fun to shoot. Would not hesitate to us for Concealed Carry. My parents (both in mid to late 70's) have shot it with the new grips and handle it well. Really like this revolver but, hate the factory grip. I'd plan on spending another $20+ for new grips. (Posted on 7/1/2016)
Nice little Reolver Review by Steve

I bought this little beauty for my wife's CCP firearm. I took it to the range to test it out before she starts to train with it and I was very impressed by it's accuracy and ease of use. However, due to the short barrel, this thing kicks a bit and I'm not to sure she'll be comfortable with it. What's crazy is that the round I was using were not +P. I've got to get to the range with some +P's to see what the kick is with them.

I may change my CCP to this little beauty once I find one that she'll be comfortable with. (Posted on 5/22/2016)

I find this gun excellent for concealed carry, since it is very light weight and has a long, heavy trigger pull. That's exactly what you want in a concealed carry gun. .38 spl is very available and inexpensive and this gun can handle +P loads. Recoil is very manageable, but you might want to consider using a modified grip with this or any J frame S&W. Wrap your support hand thumb over the back of your strong hand and it will be very controllable. I can put 3" groups at 25 feet with no difficulty at all. (Posted on 4/1/2016)
