The Ruger Precision (18004) Bolt Action rifle features three all new enhancements : hybrid muzzle brake, short action handguard and a billet aluminum bolt shroud.

  • Medium-contour (.75" at the muzzle) barrel features a Ruger Precision Rifle Hybrid Muzzle Brake to effectively reduce recoil while minimizing noise and blast to the sides of the shooter (thread protector included).
  • Cold hammer-forged 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel with 5R Rifling at minimum bore and groove dimensions, minimum headspace and centralized chamber.
  • 20 MOA Picatinny rail secured with four, #8-40 screws for increased long-range elevation capabilities.
  • "Upper" receiver and one-piece bolt are precision CNC-machined from pre-hardened 4140 chrome-moly steel to minimize distortion.
  • Three-lug bolt with 70° throw features dual cocking cams and a smooth-running, full diameter bolt body.
  • In-line recoil path manages recoil directly from the rear of the receiver to the buttstock, not through a traditional bedding system, providing maximum accuracy  potential.
  • Ruger Precision MSR stock with QD sling attachment points features a bottom Picatinny rail and soft rubber buttpad. The left-folding stock hinge is attached to an  AR-style buffer tube and accepts any AR-style stock.
  • Barrels can be easily replaced by a competent gunsmith using AR-style wrenches and headspace gauges.
  • Magazine well front is contoured for a positive grip for bracing against shooting supports.
  • Oversized bolt handle for positive bolt manipulation, with 5/16"-24 thread for easy replacement. Bolt disassembly tool is stored in the bolt shroud for easy striker  channel cleaning. Also features a Ruger Precision Rifle Billet Aluminum Bolt Shroud.
  • "Lower" magazine well halves are precision machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum and are Type III hard coat anodized for maximum durability.
  • Ruger Marksman Adjustable trigger is externally adjustable with a pull weight range of 2.25 to 5.0 lbs.; wrench is stored in the bolt shroud.
  • Extended trigger-reach AR-style grip and 45° reversible safety selector. May be configured with any AR-style grip and selector.
  • Equipped with a Ruger Precision Rifle Short-Action Handguard for improved scope clearance for long-range scopes.

Great rifle-extremely accurate Review by Alex
I bought this gun in 308 because the ammo is so common and it's a good round. It's not as flat as the 6.5mm Creedmore but I have run about 1000 rounds through this rifle and it shoots accurately and reliably with a very manageable felt recoil. I love the multi style magazine option. I have a AR-10 and the magazines are interchangeable. I put a Vortex Viper PST 6-24X50 scope and at 800yards it's pretty easy to ring the 12" steel gong at 800 yards, I shot 8/10 last time I shot there. I did run into a recall on my rifle for the bolt shroud. Ruger's website lists the serial numbers that were involved with it. The firing pin wouldn't drop all the way in certain rifles causing a light strike or not release at all. If the shooter touched the bolt handle the firing pin would release and the rifle discharges. They have fixed the issue but it would be worth double checking your serial numbers on the site. I love my gun and have never had an issue with it. My rifle was listed in the serial number series but I didn't need to change out my bolt shroud. Apparently it only happens within the first 100 rounds. Good luck and stay safe (Posted on 12/2/2017)
AWESOME RIFLE! Review by Don Smith
Was finally able to get to the range and shoot it today. Threw a cheap TruGlow red dot on it until I get the scope I want just to have a sight. In the kneeling position at 100 yards the recoil was so low that follow up shots were fast and back on target despite being a bolt action rifle. As for the other guys comment about having safety switch problems, if you dry fire the rifle, you have to reset the trigger on the safety switch will not return to safe! It's an operator error, not the rifle. I know this because I did a functions check. So if you have a problem, reset the trigger and a dry fire. In the meantime, HAPPY SHOOTING! SEMPER FI. Ruger's Lack of Quality Control Review by No Safety
Just received my brand new Ruger Precision Rifle in .308. unfortunately I didn't insert the bolt and check the operation of the safety before I accepted delivery of the rifle. The safety is stuck in the Fire position and can not be moved. Looking on the internet this seems to be a common problem. Removed the lower assembly from the receiver and cleaned & lubed the safety mechanism for the safety. No luck still stuck. Safety works without the lower assembly attached, however when assembled it's stuck.

So if you buy one, check the safety to make sure it works. (Posted on 6/28/2017)
