Huge Let Down RUGER! Review by JCD79

I took this gun out the first time and had nothing but problems. It failed to eject time after time. I changed up ammo and still had no luck. I finally sent it back to Ruger for them to look at it. They decided to put a new barrel and new slide on it. After I got it back it worked great. I loved everything about it at that point. The problem is I bought this gun for a pocket carry gun and Ruger said NOT to carry it with around in the chamber. I called them to make sure I was not missing something. The guy on the phone told me absolutely not to carry it loaded! If it was to get dropped or hit the right it may go off. That was enough for me. I sold it and bought the S&W .380 Bodyguard for my pocket gun. (Posted on 10/23/2018)

This weapon has nice fit and finish. Is easy to field strip/clean. I put Hogue beaver tail grip on it which helps me feel like I have a better hold on it...is mildly snappy, but you have to expect that from such a small weapon. No malfunctions at the range. I would buy it again!!! (Posted on 7/4/2018)

This is a great little gun; minimal print, small enough that you can carry with almost any clothing that has a pocket, and reliable! To all those that have complained about recoil, physics only permits designers to make hand cannons so small until they infringe on things like ergonomics. This gun weighs less than 11 ozs and is only .75 inches wide! Slip on some Hogue grips and the control issues with shooting go away. (Posted on 5/8/2018)

First of all, dealing with RK was a good experience. Didn't take long for the gun to get shipped, staff at the local RK were great to deal with and just overall a smooth transaction. RK had this pistol priced just too good to pass up. Shoots nice, kick is not as bad as some people left on. Like others, I had trouble with the all black sights so I painted the front sight a nice bright green color and that improved sighting tremendously. I was able to put together a nice group of shots at 10 yards the first time shooting it. The pocket holster that comes with it is an added bonus, the holster is "sticky" enough to stay in the pocket when drawing the gun, and small enough to look like a cell phone in my pants pocket when carrying. I bought an additional IWB holster, experimenting with the two carry positions depending on clothing I'm wearing. I am a little apprehensive with the fact there is no thumb safety, so for now I choose to not keep a round chambered, willing to take the 1.2 seconds (yes I timed it) it takes me to chamber a round before being able to fire. Maybe after a while I'll feel comfortable enough with the safety feature built on the trigger to keep a round chambered. Overall I am very happy with this gun. (Posted on 3/11/2018)

This is one of the best values in a 380 compact pistol I have found. Fun to shoot and very accurate because of the excellent trigger. Easily holds a under 2 inch pattern at 20 feet, never had a jam yet. Very nice quality, easy to hold and just a neat little pistol. Don't believe the negative comments, most of the owners I've talked to agree this is a excellent, fun and inexpensive gun. (Posted on 3/9/2018)

Purchased gun on February 23rd, wasn’t able to test it out until recently.

I’ve owned a p3at, an original LCP, a G42, there all better than this gun.
Fails to feed on the first round everytime, doesn’t like hydra shock, Winchester white box, or Remington UMC. Jammed everytime with critical defense ammo.

The USA made magazine appears to have a very weak spring, and the bottom plate fell off.

The slide finish, I don’t know what it’s called , but, it scratches up and shows marks very easy.
The extractor and chamber is rust pitted and I haven’t even carried it.

Very very disappointed in this Pistol. (Posted on 3/9/2018)

If you’re like me you research the heck out of things and read review after review.

Quite simply put: all the good reviews are on the money. Doesn’t kick near as bad as I thought a little .380 would.

I painted the front site white first and then fluorescent green (Testors) so it would pop, and boy does it pop.

Super pleased and would highly recommend it if you need to deep conceal a firearm.

Really happy with this gun. Had an S&W Bodyguard 380 and could never get comfortable with it (not a fan of the trigger and picky with ammo). This little gun is a very different experience. Really nice trigger for a pocket gun. Easy to control with a Hogue grip. Seems to handle the ammo I’ve put through it just fine so far. 50 rounds of PMC FMJ no problem. Gold Saber and Hornaby Critical Defense feed just fine as well. Have not tried others but since this is the ammo I plan to use, quite please with the performance. I’ve not done a critical accuracy test but was able to get decent patterns at 21 feet. Gun has been more accurate than the shooter thus far. :) All this and it disappears in my pocket. Considered a Sig P238 or a S&W 642 (S&W fan despite Bodyguard experience). Decided to go with the Ruger given the reviews and the price. Glad I did. Really happy with this gun in general. I picked this one up because of the reviews both here and elsewhere. Also, RK guns had a better price with online purchase than any other place. After bringing it home I had to wait for things to warm up before shooting it. I was prepared for a malfunction. I did field strip it and put a little oil on the rails. I have only run 15 rds through it up to now. No malfunctions of any kind. It does have a snappy recoil. It is certainly worth the money if you are looking for a small very concealable pocket carry pistol. (Posted on 1/29/2018)

After reading many reviews and watching numerous videos the LCP II top the list of subcompact handguns for me. The misses and I had the opportunity to shoot the LCP prior to purchase. Although the LCP was nice to shoot, we both agree that the LCP II upgrades made a tremendous difference in comfort and ease. Better trigger pull, more comfortable grip, safety trigger is a plus and the slide stays open on the last round. For those of you who have difficulty with chambering from stiff slides, you should be able to handle the LCP II without any problems. Thumbs up to the folks at Ruger for producing great product. RK definitely has the lowest prices!! This little pistol is shooting pretty tight groups on out to 25 yards (definitely all center mass). The only downside to this pistol is that the sights are black, and no visible colors. I can fix this myself, and Maybe Rugewr has that option (I didn't look). But, that is the ONLY drawback I can find from Ruger and/or RK... Hope this helped! (Posted on 11/16/2017)

The Ruger LCP II is a great little carry everyday gun. Weighs around 12.6 ounces loaded. Feels good to hold and the trigger is nice and crisp, which is very difficult to find on a gun this size. The only "complaints" I have (which are preferences) are that it does not have a manual safety and the sights are just black, which in a hurry situation or low light, they are very difficult to pick up on. Can't do anything about the safety but a little neon glow paint on the sights fixes that problem. This gun is definitely a welcome addition to my Ruger family of SR9c, LC9s, Single-Six .22, M-77 .308, and American .243. You just can't beat Ruger's quality and price! (Posted on 11/10/2017)

Found this on sale at a local rural king ($209). 6+1 was a little under whelming capacity, they do offer a long mag for it (8 shot capacity). Of all the in stock .380 sub- compacts, the lcp-II had the best hand feel. Extra mags are a salty site, ranging from $32- 45 for authentic Ruger hardware.
The first few mags through were a little sticky, but as with any new sidearm, it needs to be worked in. Little remmi oil here or there and it ran through the remaining 300 shells with little to know issue. (Posted on 9/20/2017)

I love the size and weight of this gun. It is a perfect conceal carry gun. Very accurate in its sights and easy to handle. I have three minor complaints. My first would be I wish the gun didn't require a tool of some sort to be disassembled. The pin is very hard to get out, and you must use a tool of some sort which can result in scratching the gun. My second complaint is I wish it had a safety feature. My third complaint is the clip. Most guns I've handled do not have a clip release that is required to load it as well. This one has to be held down to insert the clip as well.
These are three minor complaints, which are mostly preference oriented.
Overall, great gun! And great deal and I would highly suggest it to anyone wanting a conceal carry firearm. (Posted on 8/22/2017)

I own an original LCP with the dash in the serial number. I could never get used to the trigger no matter what I told myself about the long pull was for my safety. I reworked the trigger with an after market aluminum trigger and changed some springs inside. It helped a little but that long pull still came into play when shooting. Yea, I know that I wouldn't notice that if I were defending myself in a protection situation; however, fun shooting is much more prevalent and I'd rather be able to have my cake and eat it too. Solution....LCP II. Now it's fun to shoot and I still have the gun I'd rather like to carry....small pocket gun made by Ruger. (Posted on 8/20/2017)

Shot my first 50 rounds at 7 yards (don't expect to use a deep carry .380 any farther away) and kept most within 3-4" circle, though it was left and a little low. No jams or issues. The Ruger LCP II was what I'd read: Trigger was easy pull, slide lock nice, sights were easy to use, but looking to put some white nail polish or something on front sight for darker venues. First time shooting smaller than a compact 9mm; quite different. Not a gun to shoot for a long time for fun. Found my trigger finger felt sore/tender at the end of the session, maybe due to the trigger safety? But enjoyed the pistol. Great price for the value. (Posted on 5/16/2017)

Nice Pocket Gun for Cost Review by Redlinetoys
Quality
Price
Value
Great little gun purchased to complement the LCP original version already owned. I carry the original in a "Mikes" sleeve and it is a narrow pocket fit that is comfortable in jeans, shorts, etc.

I like some of the features better on the LCP II, like lock back slide upon last shot, nicer overall grip, trigger safety, etc. but, it is a little wider and more intrusive when pocketed compared to the original LCP. Will likely just continue to carry the original, and would recommend that lesser cost alternative if you plan to do the same.

Gun is reliable, but DONT buy it if you only want one gun and are looking for a combo range/self defense gun. WAY too much recoil for enjoyable range time.

We have an all stainless 20oz Sig P238 that is nearly the same size, but it is a joy at the range. Recommend shooting the guns first before you buy to make sure you will be satisfied.

Overall good gun for the money. (Posted on 4/14/2017)

Although I haven't fired it yet, I love it for the compact size a how it feels. I can't wait to go to the range and fire it. (Posted on 4/11/2017)

This LCP 2 is a beast. Feeds smooth, discharges accurately. I like pocket pistols due to their easy conceal and carry when wearing shorts or road cycling. I wish this pistol came with two mags though. It does come with an excellent pocket holster. (Posted on 4/10/2017)

If I ever need something real quick, I will need it very very quickly. I can put this in any pocket I want, but I carry a pancake in my back right pocket and that's the way I practice. This is the perfect option for me. (Posted on 4/8/2017)

I have had the LCP then the LCP Custom and finally the LCPII. This is the best yet! Easy to operate slide, better trigger, better sights, and better feel. Shoots easier than other .380's I have owned, except for my GLOCK 42 which is the softest shooting of them all! This slips easily in a shirt pocket or about anywhere. Get one...you won't be disappointed. (Posted on 3/14/2017)
One of the nicest pocket guns around Review by Jack Fate

At the price point this gun sells at I don't know how you could get any better. Trigger pull better than it should be at this price. Light, accurate & I've had NO feed problems with any ammo I've tried . About 600+ rounds fired , very good accuracy with my reloads. You'll pay over double to get a better 380 (Posted on 3/10/2017)

I like the small size. I've only fired about 50 rounds through it so far, but so far no problems. It's also very light (Posted on 2/7/2017)
Loving It! Review by Jack

Owned and carried a Keltec P3AT for several years. Arthritis in the wrists made the slide become increasingly difficult to retract and it wasn't real pleasant to shoot. Tried an LCP but found it to be similar. The LCP II has been a real step up. Grip style, trigger, sights, ease of operation and recoil are much improved. Accuracy with this particular gun has been exceptional. RK's price was very good and service outstanding. Ordered the pistol on a Wednesday and it arrived at my FFL on the following Monday! OK SubCompact Review by Corky

I have this LCPII, LCP 1, and LC9s (9mm) Glock 43. This 380 is too snappy and rough on the hand, compared to the 9mm LC9s.
Definitely not a firearm you would want to hang out and target shoot. Dollar for dollar, I prefer the LC9s, especially for the added power, but again 1 magazines.
Of course for Glock 43 (9mm) the best of all, if you want to spend the extra money.
I don't understand why Ruger gives you 1 6rd mag when most others provide 2 or 3 mags. An extra mag add a cost over 35.00 poor business.

I did take the LCP II to the range. Besides being too snappy it had several jams and double feeds, with various ammo. I tried Remington and it appeared to have less jams then the other ammo. I called Ruger, and they suggested before sending the firearm in, to try another clip that they will send me, and I returning the orig clip. I haven't had a chance to retry it yet, but after the jams, I cannot trust this a a carry piece. Currently i carry my Glock 27 or 43, or Springfield XD Mod2 45 or .40, or Ruger LC9s. Hope this helps. I haven't shot it yet, but I know this pistol will be great. It is Ruger and made in America. Rural King sells great guns at a fair price and this pistol is an example. Looking forward to shooting it and seeing what it can do. Once I shoot it I will know how it feels and really recommend buying from Rural King. (Posted on 12/22/2016)

It has single action trigger. Has a steel guide rod. The textured grip feels good. It's easy to rack the slide. I haven't had a single malfunction when firing it. Mine came with a good holster. Sights are better than the old LCP. I don't notice the extra ounce of weight. (Posted on 11/4/2016)

I also have the LCP but like the single action on the LCP II much better. It has a much shorter, crisper trigger point, which also improves accuracy. I also have the Glock 42 but prefer the LCP II due to its very compact size. Excellent for pocket carry. (Posted on 10/31/2016)

This new LCP II pistol has a very good trigger pull. The slightly larger grip area makes it much more comfortable to grip and control. The lock open slide after the last shot fired is great. This is probably the best 380 on the market at this time. I would highly recommend as a backup weapon for a police officer or any citizen wanting a good concealable pistol. (Posted on 10/28/2016)

Weighs about the same as the LCP but has a way better trigger. The slide is easier to rack. Sights are better. It feels good in my hand. No malfunctions when I fired it. I was firing Ruger ARX bullets. Mine came with a pocket holster. I haven't disassembled it but a guy on YouTube said it has a steel guide rod.
It took eleven days to receive it but RK had the lowest price that I saw. (Posted on 10/28/2016)
