I own 2 of these, and both are very accurate and shoot very well. They do require a break in period to smooth out. These Remingtons are as good or better that the 45's I carried in the Marine Corps. (Posted on 2/28/2018)

I waited many years to own this style of weapon . Fired this weapon a lifetime ago during my time in the Marines. I like the feel and after reading many reviews on 1911 I bought this Remington .It was between this and a Springfield 1911 . But with the rebate that Remengton had going on I chose the Remington for quality and price . (Posted on 1/25/2018)

I got the standard model - no frills - just what I wanted. I have shot about 2700 rounds through this gun. At 400 rounds I sent it in for the Platinum service that came with it. Remington paid freight both ways and cleaned and tightened the safety and trigger - fantastic customer service. This is a reliable and very accurate gun. Plus it looks great - very well made. I've had this .45 for several months now. I cannot shoot it without frequent jams regardless of the quality or type of ammo used. I will not count on this weapon to defend myself. Too unreliable. I plan to contact Remington about warranty work on mine. (Posted on 3/5/2017)

I've owned several 1911's over the years, and carried one in RVN. This Remington is as good as any Colt I've owned and/or fired. Accurate and very well made. No problems at all. I've only fire a couple hundred rounds but it has been flawless. (Posted on 2/14/2017)

It's an amazing gun for the price. Only problem I've had with mine is it doesn't really like aluminum rounds. They tend to eject forward and scratch the gun to pieces. But if you shell out the money for brass rounds, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. (Posted on 8/19/2016)

I have always wanted a 1911 but never got one. RK's price with rebate on the R1 was just too good to pass up. I have shot this thing numerous times with all variety of cheap ammo. It has performed flawlessly. It shoots where I point it with decent groups without touching a thing. Everything from the trigger to the slide to take down works very smoothly. I wish I had purchased this gun a long time ago. (Posted on 8/14/2016)

Disappointed in the rebate program! Remington wanted the original sales receipt. I bought it online and sent the email that I received from RK after paying and the proof of purchase from the guns paperwork. Never received the rebate so I paid full price for the gun.
Trigger pull is good and the finish is good. (Posted on 6/8/2016)

Wanted to ad few more comments on this firearm after putting around 1200 rounds through it. It has operated flawlessly with no problems at all using ball, hollow point and ammo from various manufacturers. As said previously this gun is dead accurate and fun to shoot. I even used this firearm in a CCW class along with a SD 9 and used the 45 more. IMHO this is a great gun for anyone looking for a good quality 1911. (Posted on 6/2/2016)

I purchased this firearm last month and got a terrific deal with the rebate program. But, alas, it's only a great deal if the weapon performs as advertised, right? As always, I disassembled the weapon and gave it a thorough cleaning before the first firing. I oiled it per the instructions and may have even been a little liberal with the oil, since it would be during the break-in period. I took it to the range and it was wonderfully accurate.....when it didn't FTF. The second to last round jammed in 4 out of 5 loaded mags. This is with the factory mags provided. I ran about 75 rounds through it, with mostly similar results. Next outing I will try a variety of ammo, and with Wilson Combat mags to see if this makes a difference. I got on the web and did a search of several blogs sites and there are folks having similar problems....to the extent that it is either the 2nd round, or the second from last round in each mag that is problematical. I have not contacted Remington yet and I thought that I would clean the gun again and retest. I'll update if possible, later. So far, a little disappointed! Great buy, but I'd rather not have to use it as a boomerang..... (Posted on 5/30/2016)
Outstanding .45 Review by Airman53e

I have fired many different .45 ACP's from New in Box (NIB) Colt Gold Cup to the shot out sloppy US Marine Corps left over WWII to post Vietnam .45's in Quantico Va. I always wanted a .45 but couldn't justify purchasing it instead of my .357 Python (NIB 1976) and many others with higher capacity magazines: 9mm, .40cal pistols from Browning, S&W, HK, FN, Sig and CZ...

I seldom sell a firearm, so spending the money for a 7-8 round capacity, hard to conceal pistol I hesitated on purchasing this one. After going to a local RK and checking out the trigger, balance and shaking it for any rattles (none detected)
and reading a 'Gun Tests' 5 star review (for the full size vs Commander 4 star)
I bought it. The discount, and rebates came as advertised, and on the range I had NO issues. It was as accurate as either of the Gold Cups and had Zero failures to fire or eject after 500 rounds utilizing a wide assortment of cartridges, bullet weights (from 165gr. and 180gr. JHP self defense rounds to 230gr ball) and manufacturers (no steel casings were shot) . Accuracy with all were within the 8 ring at 25 yards and at the 15 yard line were within the 9 ring. I only shoot pistols once or twice a week for about 4-500 rounds per week. I love this Pistol.
Retired USMC double expert rifle and pistol 10 plus times. (Posted on 5/25/2016)

Very pleased with this 1911. Slide just a little sloppy on the rear and clips seem to be lower quality than from what I expected from Remington. But overall I'm very pleased with this purchase especially on sale plus a $100 rebate. At 479.00 after rebate you can't beat it! (Posted on 5/8/2016)

Purchased this firearm with the rebate which made it a great price. I have fired over 200 rounds through it with no problems what so ever. I love the feel and balance in my hands. Excellent shooter and accuracy is dead on with very little recoil for a 45. I have three 9 mm's and this firearm is much easier for me to shoot. To bad it's to large for conceal and carry. Third firearm from RK and can't beat their prices. (Posted on 4/15/2016)
